The Nigerian national power grid has collapsed, resulting in a nationwide power outage. This incident marks the ninth significant disruption to Nigeria's electricity supply in 2024.
The National Grid on platform X revealed a statement issued by Dr. Friday Adakole, Head of Corporate Communications at JosDisco.
The statement indicated: “The current outage affecting our franchise states is attributed to a loss of power supply from the national grid. This loss occurred this morning at approximately 11:28 AM on Thursday, 7th November 2024, resulting in the disruption of power across all our feeders.
“We aim to restore normal power supply to our valued customers as swiftly as the grid supply returns to a state of normalcy. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we endeavor to enhance our service delivery.”
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) also confirmed the recent outage in a communication to its customers.
The IKEDC stated: “Please be advised that we experienced a system outage today, 7th November 2024, at 11:29 hours, impacting supply within our network.”
The organization assured customers that efforts to restore power are being coordinated with key stakeholders, although a specific timeline for restoration was not provided.
“Restoration of supply is currently in progress. We kindly request your understanding,” the company added.
In parallel, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to release an official statement explaining the cause of the grid collapse on Thursday.
