The Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) has officially announced the establishment of three new faculties, marking a significant enhancement of its academic offerings and providing expanded opportunities for its student body.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, has approved the formation of these faculties to diversify the university's academic programs and to reinforce its standing as a premier institution of higher learning.
The university has introduced the Faculty of Communication, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Computing. These faculties will collectively feature 18 new degree programs specifically designed to meet contemporary educational and professional requirements.
The Faculty of Communication will offer programs such as Mass Communication, Broadcasting, Information and Media Science, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, Advertising, and Film and Multimedia Studies.
The Faculty of Arts will encompass programs including English Language, Language and Linguistics, Arabic Studies, Religious Studies, and Language and Communication Arts.

In addition to these academic developments, the university has successfully secured critical intervention programs supported by the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria. The World Bank is set to establish a state-of-the-art Artificial Insemination Centre (AIC) on the university campus in Yola, which aims to enhance animal husbandry, improve animal species, and boost protein production via meat and milk. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for the establishment of this center.
Moreover, the Federal Government has allocated significant funds for infrastructure development at MAUTECH. Approval has also been granted by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for the installation of an industrial borehole with a storage capacity of 40,000 litres. These initiatives are designed to address resource needs while supporting academic advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor continues Vice-Chancellorplary leadership in securing partnerships and resources for the university, underscoring the institution's unwavering commitment to academic advancement and the cultivation of essential skills among students. The university community can anticipate these new academic and infrastructural developments, which are expected to foster innovation and enhance the learning experience.
Modibbo Adama University, Yola, is a public research university located in Girei, Adamawa State, in Northeastern Nigeria. Established with the primary objective of advancing science-based research, it is one of four federal technology universities in the country. The university is accredited by the National Universities Commission and offers a range of academic programs, including associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The current Vice-Chancellor is Abdullahi Liman Tukur.
In 1984, the institution was integrated into the University of Maiduguri, thereby becoming the Modibbo Adama Campus (MACUM). It regained its autonomy in 1988, subsequently changing its name to Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, in 2011. This rebranding was approved by then-President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, with the name change taking effect on October 1 of that year.
The university is named after Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan (1809-1847), a notable scholar, distinguished educator, and founding leader of the Fombina Kingdom, now known as the Adamawa Emirate. Modibbo Adama Ibn Hassan was also a disciple and prominent figure within Sheikh Usman Ibn Fodio's Sokoto Caliphate. The establishment bill for Modibbo Adama University Yola was assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 6, 2021.
The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through seven schools, including the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Environmental Science, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Education, College of Medical Sciences, School of General Studies, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.
In addition to traditional full-time programs, the university provides degree programs through its centers for distance learning. It also offers diploma and certificate programs in over twenty disciplines through its Consultancy Services Unit. The institution emphasizes teaching and research in science and technology, fostering partnerships and collaborations with foreign universities, corporate entities, and both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The university library, established in 1981 by the civilian administration of Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, initially had no resources and began operations in a temporary building in April 1983. Following its merger with the University of Maiduguri in 1984, the library functioned as a college library under the Ramat Library's authority at the University of Maiduguri. Upon regaining autonomy in 1988, it transitioned into a full-fledged university library.
The library provides both print and electronic resources, along with access to online databases, open educational resources, and open-access journals.
